Introduction

On October 7, 2023, Hamas, a Palestinian militant group that has governed more than 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since 2006, launched a surprise attack on Israel, prompting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare war. This guide provides information on the current War between Israel and Hamas, including links to historical background information, national and international news coverage, and ways to get support within the PEA community. PEA students, faculty, and staff should use good judgement when consuming information on social media and in the news.  Remember to ask:

  • What organization is behind the information?
  • What is the evidence provided in the report?
  • Look for supporting evidence.
  • Could the image and/or video have been altered?
